How to cash out crypto

Converting crypto to cash means selling the asset and receiving fiat by bank transfer. This guide sets out how that works through a Swiss regulated counterparty, what it costs and how long it takes.

What cashing out crypto actually means

Cashing out, selling for cash and using an off ramp all describe the same thing: exchanging a cryptoasset for conventional currency and receiving it in a bank account. The part that differs between providers is who holds the asset in the meantime, how the price is set, and whether the fiat can reach an account in your own name.

A regulated counterparty

FE Swiss Financial AG, trading as XEROF, is a financial intermediary under the Swiss Anti-Money Laundering Act, supervised through VQF membership No. 100954.

The rate you are shown

Quotes come from tier 1 institutional liquidity passed through at cost. The XEROF fee is applied separately, so the confirmation shows the rate, the fee and the net amount.

Into your own bank account

Fiat settles to an account in your own name over Fedwire, SWIFT, SEPA, CHAPS or Faster Payments, in USD, EUR, CHF or GBP.

Settlement timing

SEPA and Faster Payments typically settle the same business day. SWIFT usually takes one to two business days.

How to convert crypto to cash, step by step

Four steps from opening an account to cash in your bank.

  1. 1

Open an account and verify your identity

Apply online as an individual or a company. Each signatory completes identity verification with our KYC provider. Onboarding typically completes in 3 to 5 business days and there is no onboarding fee.

  2. 2

Send your crypto to a segregated wallet

Request a deposit in online.xerof.ch and transfer your cryptoassets or stablecoins. They are held in one segregated on-chain wallet in your own name, never pooled.

  3. 3

    Accept a quote

Request a conversion and the platform returns the liquidity rate and the XEROF fee on separate lines. Accept it and the conversion is executed.

  4. 4

Withdraw the cash to your bank

Instruct the fiat withdrawal and the proceeds leave to a bank account in your own name in USD, EUR, CHF or GBP.

What it costs

Two things determine the cost of cashing out: the rate you are given and the fee you are charged. Many venues fold their margin into the rate, so the cost is not visible. XEROF sources every quote from tier 1 institutional liquidity and passes it through at cost, then applies its own fee separately. Each confirmation shows the liquidity rate, the fee and the net amount. Fees follow the published tiers on the pricing page, and each outgoing fiat payment carries a flat withdrawal fee.

If you convert regularly, the settlement desk and a dedicated IBAN keep the fiat leg on an account in your own name. Businesses taking crypto from customers can pair this with accepting crypto payments.

Common questions

How do you convert crypto to cash?
You send the cryptoassets to a regulated counterparty, accept a quote, and receive fiat by bank transfer. With XEROF the assets sit in a segregated wallet in your own name until the conversion is executed, and the fiat settles to your own bank account.
Can you convert crypto to cash directly to a bank account?
Yes. The fiat leg settles over conventional bank rails to an account in your own name, so no wallet or crypto exposure is needed at the receiving end.
What is the cheapest way to convert crypto to cash?
The cost that matters is the spread plus the fee. XEROF passes tier 1 liquidity through at cost with no spread or mark-up and shows its fee on its own line, so the total is visible before you accept the quote.
How long does it take to cash out crypto?
The conversion is executed when you accept the quote. The fiat then follows the rail: SEPA and Faster Payments typically the same business day, SWIFT one to two business days.
Which cryptoassets can I cash out?
Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL), plus the stablecoins USDC and USDT.
Do I pay tax when I cash out crypto?
Possibly, depending on where you are resident. XEROF is a settlement provider and does not give tax or legal advice, so take your own advice on treatment in your jurisdiction.
Is there a limit on how much I can cash out?
Trade sizes are agreed at onboarding and confirmed in writing, so the desk can quote firm prices against institutional liquidity.
Can a company cash out crypto to its business account?
Yes. Company accounts settle to a bank account in the company name, and can be paired with a dedicated IBAN so proceeds arrive on an account in your own name.

Cash out through a Swiss regulated counterparty. Open an account online as an individual or a company, and your segregated wallet is ready at the end of onboarding.
